Originally from Pulaski, Virginia, Dr. John D. Cress became interested in chiropractic care after he injured his low back and found relief from a local chiropractor. This local chiropractor changed his life by awakening a passion for chiropractic and complementary medicine. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled at National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL.
His educational background includes: Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine from National University of Health Sciences, Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Sports Health Education with a minor in Chemistry from Radford University in Radford, Virginia, certifications in acupuncture from National University of Health Sciences, Kinesio® Tape from Kinesio® Tape Association International, and massage therapy from Virginia School of Massage, and an Associate Degree in Science from New River Community College.
During his time at National University of Health Sciences, Dr. Cress focused his extracurricular education on acupuncture, advanced adjusting techniques, Kinesio® Tape application and use, and functional rehabilitation. As an active basketball player and runner, he realized the importance of proper rehabilitation with sports related injuries and uses various combination of his skills and techniques to help patients function at their potential.
Dr. Cress has a variety of personal interests including chess, basketball, and volunteering. As chess coach in the Catholic school system, he hopes to help students to utilize the skills acquired by playing chess to further their critical thinking skills and educational development. Volunteering has been an integral part of Dr. Cress’s life and he has worked with Friends of Prentice for the Northwestern Memorial Foundation, The Hall-Steps Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, S.H.A.R.E, Ministries Health Services, and the Free Clinic of New River Valley. Dr. Cress looks forward to working closely with his community to help build a stronger and healthier lifestyle for his patients.
